Our townhouse needed, and needs, some TLC. As with most rental properties, it’s clear that not everyone has treated it with the proper respect. I talked to Gerry on August 7, the day we officially moved in, and he said he’d have a maintenance guy get over the next day.
No one from Old Virginia came the next day. Or the day after that. Or any time since then. At some point, Gerry called the owner and told him that he’d have to take care of things; Old Virginia’s maintenance staff was “too busy”.
Here’s a list of maintenance issues, previous and outstanding, not a single one of which has Gerry or Old Virginia lifted a finger to correct:
(note that I have only listed the maintenance requests which I have made to Gerry... there are other things that need to be fixed, but since I know Gerry’s not going to take care of them and the owners don’t have the time, we’re either fixing them ourselves or just living with them)
Outstanding issues:
-
★Air conditioning does not work
-
★Blinds in master bedroom sag in the middle, rendering them nearly inoperable
-
★Blinds in second bedroom broken and not attached (nor attachable--I believe the anchors are missing)
-
★Master shower nonfunctional due to broken diverter (water flows from the tub faucet even when the knob is turned to shower)
-
★Master toilet runs intermittently (I have tried replacing the flapper valve to no avail)
-
★Both bathrooms need to be re-caulked; the caulk is literally black with mildew
Repaired issues (and who repaired them):
-
★Neither shower had good water pressure. Owner brought and installed new showerheads.
-
★Second shower drained extremely slowly. I ran Drãno down it and it seemed to improve.
-
★Master sink plugged closed and holding a pool of water for the first 3 weeks we lived here. Owner bought and installed new parts to replace those which had rusted through.
-
★Dryer does not vent to the outside due to a previous problem, so there is a lint trap installed in the house. This lint trap was on a vent hose too short to place it anywhere, so we couldn’t fill the trap with water (which is required for it to catch lint). Owner brought and attached longer vent hose, and came back 2 weeks later to drill a hole in the wall and put the lint trap in a different closet so it would be out of the way of the dryer.
